Very reminiscent of [b:Finch|6582496|Finch (Ambergris, #3)|Jeff VanderMeer|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1388254308s/6582496.jpg|6775967], but with a narrator that is easier to relate to, and a setting that is both weirder and more grounded in reality. It has a more straightforward writing style, but there is still slightly off in parts.

The characters never refer to themselves by name, only role, and their brief conversations are clipped and direct. And although the narration flows normally, there is still a sense that something is slightly off with the language used. This all adds up to create an atmosphere of strangeness that really compliments the story.
